Frequently Asked Questions:
Where do I begin? How do I get an estimate? At CrestStone, we work hard to make it easy for you to participate in the process of the project.
- Select the color. This is best accomplished by visiting our showroom or a store
near you. Our stone products vary in price by color and type. Our staff will work with you to help determine the right product for both your decor and your budget.
- Select Thickness selection: The vast majority of countertop material that we sell
is 1-¼" (3 cm) thick. We also have 1¾" (2 cm) materials available.
- Determine the edge style desired. Again, a visit to our showroom to view the
actual product will make your final decision easier.
- Determine if your sink will be mounted under or over the surface of the
counter. We stock a selection of the most popular kitchen sink styles to help you save both time and money.
- Determine the height of back splash guards: You will select either: the 4 inch
standard height or full height (dimension from the countertop to cabinet bottom).
- Prepare a sketch or drawing of your project: A hand drawn sketch will do, as
long as it gives close approximate countertop dimensions and shows the approximate location of the sink and cooktop.
- Send us your sketch or drawing by fax or Email for a prompt preliminary
estimate. Or, visit our showroom for assistance from our staff.
- Contact us for assistance at any point in the process: (847) 990-0298 . Or by
Email support@creststones.com. We are committed to the success of your project.
Can you install my cabinet and counters? Yes. We provide home remodeling service and that's part of our specialty, so you don't need to find another contractor for your project.
Can you re-connect my plumbing connections? Yes. We can do that for your convenience.
How long will my project take? Once you have made your decision to proceed and have submitted your initial (50%) deposit, we will schedule a field measurement within one week. From there, your fabrication and installation typically takes one to three weeks.
What is next if I decided to proceed with the project?
- If Customer has made a final selection of granite, we will prepare a sales
contract. The contract will outline the details of the project, the specifics of the project, and payment terms.
- We will schedule an appointment to “template” the project. Templating is
required on all projects to ensure exact measurements. The existing countertops may have to be removed at the time of templating. If the customer is installing a new sink or cooktop, the new items must be available when we create the template.
- Fabrication - after the template is created, it is taken back to the shop where the
sections are fabricated according to the template.
- Installation – After the granite sections are fabricated, they are ready for
installation. A typical installation will take between 4 and 8 hours.
Cabinet Installation Requirement It is critical that the cabinets be set level no matter what countertop you have. If they are not, the countertops will show gaps that are not attractive. Stress to the cabinet installers that they make sure the cabinets are level to within 1/8" in 4'-0".
Wavy Walls Most walls are not perfectly flat. Granite, on the other hand, is cut almost perfectly straight. We recommend a minimum standard 4" backsplash to transition between the counter and the wall.
Countertop Jointing Typical slabs range from 7 feet to10 feet long, and 4 feet to 6 feet high, allowing long runs and L-shaped pieces. L-shapes however cost slightly more due to the extra manpower required to carry the obtuse load and the waste creted from the inside of the L. The maximum size we can provide varies depending on the weight and size of the stone with relation to the ease of entry to your home.
What if I can't find the color I'm looking for at CrestStones? For unique and hard to find stone colors and patterns, we will assist you by working with our affiliated local distributors that give us access to thousands of slab choices.
Are stone surfaces difficult to maintain? Granite, marble and other natural stone products are porous materials and therefore require sealing. Every top is sealed upon installation. For residential use, it is recommended that the surface be sealed annually using sealant designed for use with natural stone.
